How Attending A Star Wars Convention Could Change The World

22 02 2011

So, last year, I had the awesome opportunity to present at Ignite Phoenix #6. My talk was titled ‘You’ll Never Watch Star Wars The Same Way Again’ and it delved into some of the more obscure bits of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. It was a total blast and I got a ton of positive feedback from the local community as well as the general online Star Wars community. It was the perfect way for me to get psyched about Star Wars Celebration V.

So, in August, I packed my trusty Yoda backpack and made my way down to Florida. It was awesome. You can read all about it (and see tons of pictures) here & here. I was able to meet new people (including Star Wars author Dan Wallace, who was kind enough to give me an interview!), I was able to sit in on some amazing panels, and generally experience what it’s like to be part of such a positive and enthusiastic fan community.

A few months later, the “May the Force Be With Katie” story stormed the interwebs, and it got me thinking…Star Wars fans rock! If every day was like a day at Celebration V, if every day was filled with the passion and positivity of Star Wars fans, the world would be a better place. Eureka! My idea for Ignite Phoenix #9 was born.

I was so excited when I was chosen to speak at Ignite Phoenix for a second time, especially since I would be talking about something I had just experienced so profoundly.

Thanks to all the organizers and attendees of Celebration V for making it one of the best experiences of my life. And thanks to all the Star Wars fans, around the world, for contributing your own, unique self to the most awesome community of fans in the galaxy!

So, without further ado, enjoy ‘How Attending a Star Wars Convention Could Change the World’.

Great presentation and great advice: Get excited to learn, be nice, be yourself, and support each other. Couldn’t agree more!

Awesome presentation! The Force is strong with you my friend. Thanks for shining some light on the SW Universe. I find that SW fans are the kindest I’ve ever met. Looking forward to meeting more of them this year at Disney’s Star Wars Weekends as I will be hosting the event! Best and MTFBWY – JAT
